Where are those April showers?

Spring is warming up, and for my first session this month, I thought I'd go back to Robin Wood and try Lake 3 again, this time on the opposite bank. Fishing with a pair of 10-foot ledger rods I bought last year, I paired one rod with a Mitchell 300 and the other with an Intrepid Extra. I decided on boilies for a hook bait and boilie crumb as freebies, and I did see signs of a few fish as I set up. No fish on this session though, and as all piscators know, an afternoon fishing is never time wasted. Especially when the spring sunshine is warming your back and the wildlife is starting to wake up.

The second session this month was at my nearest club water, Heatherton Pond. With an 11-foot John Wilson rod and Daiwa reel, it felt more like a recce than a session as I moved pegs three times looking for signs of fish. Alas, none were seen, and no fish were hooked.

The next session was a fruitful one, and for the first time in over a year, I went to Birch House Lakes with a Milbro Prefect and Hydroflo centrepin reel and fished Buzzard Lake, which is one of my favourites. It took a while to get the corner swim going, however, after a while the maggots and corn did the trick and three Carp and some nice Roach were hooked and landed.

I thought I'd go back to Robin Wood as it hadn't been busy, and I fancied another chance to catch the eluding fish from my previous visit. Armed with coffee, cake, a Golden Green and Army & Navy rod and Mitchell 300 and Cardinal 157 reel, I returned to Lake 3, which I had to myself and this time I fished peg 7. Would it be lucky? It was the Army & Navy rod and the Mitchell reel that did the business, and I was able to net a nice-looking Carp. A very pleasant afternoon and final session this month, and the weather continues to be warm and sunny.
