12' Milbro Prefect Float Road & Mordex Merlin Reel
Updated: 6 days ago

I've been busy this month restoring a 10' Millwards Whole Cane Rod. My brother bought the rod from an antiques dealer at a local garden centre for £10.
The rod was in a very sorry state when I got it, with most of the line guides missing and the remaining guides very rusty and unusable.
I cleaned up the brass fittings and sanded the rod with fine sandpaper, before whipping new line guides, staining the handle and applying yacht varnish to the whole cane and hard wood tip-section.
The rod fit nicely in a spare bag I had and I'm pleased with the finished project. I'll give the rod a try sometime and may keep it, we'll see.
The rod came with a mid and tip section for another rod which I've put to one side for another day.
As well as spending quality time in my shed, I have been fishing this month. It was a lovely Sunday afternoon early in the month when I was back at Findern on the Trent & Mersey Canal catching plenty of silvers, including a very good-sized Roach.
Also this month, I float-fished with a 10’ hollow fibreglass Martin James of Redditch, two-piece Salmon rod and Mitchell 206S reel. This time, at Robin Wood Fishery near Derby. The weather was changeable during this mid-September day.
