Fishing the Earl of Harrington 5th Annual Facebook Match.
The first session of the month was on 6 May, and I was back on the Earl at Woodrows for a good day's fishing for anything. Unfortunately, none of the baits I used tempted the Carp just under the surface, or any other species to feed. However, I didn’t feel too frustrated as I was in a very nice, peaceful spot; under a hazy sky with temperatures around 20 degrees and only one other angler caught a fish. The fish did start to feed in the evening apparently - after I’d gone! - and several nice fish were caught and images shared on social media.
I joined 21 other Earl of Harrington anglers on Mill Dam for the 5th Annual Facebook Match on the 21 May. It was a really difficult five hours fishing; I drew peg 15 on the canal section and didn’t catch anything, not even a knock! The fish were there, but they weren’t feeding, and only several anglers caught anything. Joint first place weighed 3.13lbs each, and third place weighed 3.2lbs. The match raised money for Autism East Midlands, so it was all for a good cause.
On 24 May I was back at Stenson Bubble and caught a nice Roach on my first cast. The Roach and Perch came regularly for a few hours and then suddenly stopped. I moved upstream and carried on catching Roach, Perch and a small Chub. I had a really good session which also included two good-sized Perch.
Finally this month, I was at Springwood Fisheries on the bottom lake catching Roach, Ide and four Carp from about 2½-4lb, so a good day with some nice weather, apart from the rain for a few hours in the afternoon.
